Supermarkets, restaurants practise social distancing

Supermarket and restaurant operators implemented crowd control measures yesterday to help limit spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Customers queued outside some outlets and were allowed inside only as others came out as management tried to facilitate social distancing. 

Massy Rendezvous placed markers in the check-out line to help create distance between customers.

Management of Burger King continued measures to limit contact such as customers placing payment in a tray. They also spoke of increased cleaning and installing more hand sanitiser units.

Minister of Health and Wellness Jeffrey Bostic announced during a press conference on Saturday that confirmed cases of COVID-19 had risen to 14 and Barbados was at Stage 2 of a national plan limiting social gatherings to 25 people.

Officials have emphasised that social distancing (reducing social interaction among people in order to reduce the transmission of COVID-19) was critical.
