Recent Major Blackout Was Due to Feeders Tripping

At 8:15 pm on Friday August 16th, 2019, 23 (twenty-three) of 26 (twenty-six) APUA electricity feeders tripped offline resulting in a major power outage that affected a large cross–section of consumers. This interruption in electricity service was as a result of mechanical failure at the Antigua Power Company (APC) Plant whereby the instrument which provides air to the plant failed causing all engines to trip offline.
Approximately 45 minutes after the outage occurred, the 23 (twenty-three) feeders were re-energized and power was restored to all affected customers. Technicians at APC have since sort to carry out repairs to the device which caused the outage and the power production at the plant has normalized.
