Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that within the next fourteen days, his government will make a major announcement pertaining to a major tourism project to be set up at Fort James.
Speaking on Pointe Fm on Saturday, the Prime Minister said that his government,recently had a good meeting with top officials from Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
According to Prime Minister Browne, the government is hoping to sign off, on a memorandum of agreement with Royal Caribbean and will keep the public updated.
“one thing, I will say here is that we have already made it abundantly clear to them, is that there should be no displacement of our local taxi operators,” the prime minister said.
The Prime Minister also pointed that the project will create opportunities for water taxis so that when the tourists are being moved, they will not only be moved on land, but also by sea.
He said that the water taxis will represent a new product and Antiguans and Barbudans will be able to operate shops.
The Prime Minister added that in terms of employment, the new facility at Fort James will create eight to one thousand jobs.
