Over 80 arrested, firearms seized in police weekend operations in T&T

Over 80 persons were arrested for various offences and a quantity of firearms seized in several police operations across all policing divisions, between Friday 28th and Monday 31st January 2022.

The Police Service reports that 30 persons were arrested for committing serious crimes, 38 were arrested for committing minor offences, and 12 were detained on outstanding warrants.

Official police reports state that Malcolm Grandison, 25, of George Street, Glamorgan, Tobago, was charged on Saturday 29th January 2022, relative to the circumstances surrounding the death of Rawle Joseph, whose body was found on Thursday 6th January 2022, in the Tobago Division.  Grandison is expected to appear before a Scarborough Magistrate, today.

One man was arrested, after police conducted investigations into the death of a 10-year-old boy in Arima, while a 40-year-old woman is currently in police custody relative to the circumstances surrounding the death of a man which occurred on 31st March 2021, in the Santa Cruz Police district.

Thirteen persons were arrested in the Central Division for various offences during the weekend police operations.  One person was arrested for possession of a firearm; two were held for robbery; and two other suspects were detained for robbery with violence. In addition, four other persons were arrested for being in possession of illegal drugs.
