GOVERNMENT is strengthening its surveillance for the deadly coronavirus, which has now claimed more than 1 000 lives in mainland China.
Yesterday, the House of Assembly approved $1.18 million for the Ministry of Health and Wellness to spend on quarantine facilities and related measures.
The approval came after Minister of Health and Wellness Jeffrey Bostic reported that “over the last few weeks” 46 people were monitored under quarantine for 14 days. Nineteen are still in their period of observation, he said.
But Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley, while supportive of the effort at home, voiced concern for Barbadians, especially students, who remainedin China.
