New political party launches

A new political party, Progressive Party, has been launched in Trinidad and Tobago.

Led by former independent senator, activist and founder of the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Convention, Nikoli Edwards, the party will contest all seats in the 2020 general election.

The political party was launched at Harris Promenade, San Fernando, yesterday.

Addressing about 100 people who gathered at the venue, Edwards said the Progressive Party had not built its foundation on the failings of other political organisations as not a single member had come from another party.

The party’s symbol is a guiding flame which represents “the burning desire of citizens”.

Born in San Fernando, Edwards said he had been involved in civil service for the past ten years.

Edwards called on citizens to join his party and to suggest candidates to contest the 2020 general election.

Edwards said he would ensure than all Members of Parliament are held responsible for their actions.
