EARLY childhood teachers in 3,600 Government-run or supported institutions will receive a 15 per cent increase in their monthly salaries, effective April 1, 2019.
The education ministry, in a release yesterday, said $550 million has been allocated to support the new ‘Brain Builders’ programme, which is in keeping with its mandate of providing support for early stimulation, as well as supporting the direction of the Early Childhood Commission.
In addition, the ministry has allocated $42 million in the 2019-2020 budget to cover the cost of 12,000 early childhood teachers and practitioners in public educational institutions to obtain food handlers permits and annual police records.
Education Youth and Information Minister Senator Ruel Reid said the directive is in keeping with Government’s thrust to improve the sector.
The ministry, he said, will continue its thrust to make a solid investment in the early childhood sector which will in turn ensure greater access for students to Government-supported programmes and build a strong foundation for their early years.
